I was introduced to a Caliber home loan by real estate agent J Stacey. We used the Caliber home loan in May 2022 to buy a house in Florida. Joe Lake said that the 5% down payment rate is high interest and the 20% down payment rate is low interest. I told him I would go down 20%, but he told me that he would apply the interest rate for 5% down and then a lower interest rate for the 20% down later. I made a down payment of 20% and he applied an interest rate 0.5% higher than the original rate at the last minute. My friend bought a house in the same area in the same month and got a home loan from another bank. They've got a 5% down payment and they don't have as good credit as us, but they got a better interest rate than us. I can't trust The Caliber home loan.

Greg was disappointing to say the most. The information for our application was given to him numerous times yet still weeks later our application wasn’t even put in, and when it finally was the necessary information wasn’t documented. Greg wants you to do the work and contact him to make sure the ball is rolling. That’s your job, Greg.

Review by Valerie Buonacorsi for Charity Maupin

Completed transaction on January 5, 2024

Stay Away. Charity is condescending, rude, tells clients that she has to take care of others. My son and I were going though her to get a VA loan. My son is Vet and I am not. She told us it was a difficult process. Even a couple of weeks after submitting our application and other required forms Charity still could not tell us how much we qualified for nor provide us with a VA preapproval letter. She even told me I had to claim higher on my taxes on what she said I would need to qualify. We went to another lender told her my son and I were cobuying. Her first words was Lets run your son first. Boom! She said that my son qualified on his own without my income with 24 hours. Charity didn't think once to run my son first. Even though she said we had to start with him. Charity cost me more in income taxes and we lost a house we wanted to purchase. I have everything in emails and texts to back up this review.

Review by Matt Parson for Jon Gonzalez

Completed transaction on January 5, 2024

Jon was the worst, by far the most arrogant and inconsiderate person I've ever met. Simply does not communicate and when asked simple questions he replies with very rude statements in which I have record. Purchasing a home is already hard enough, so my advise to anyone wanting to purchase a home would be to use someone else who actually cares and wants to help with the biggest purchase of your life. The company for which he works is awesome and would highly recommend them. They should however consider reviewing their line up.

Review by Brooke Story for Jon Gonzalez

Completed transaction on January 5, 2024

Jon was extremely nice and friendly to me a year ago when I was home hunting, we ultimately did not buy last year. This year I reached back out to start the process again and from the 2nd phone call Jon spoke down to me in a very condescending tone and would get argumentive with me on every question I asked. I gave him a final chance when he gave me a few things to fix on my boyfriends credit, he said in 30 days we would run credit again. I called after 40 days and he told me we needed to wait another full month. I was clear what my timeline looked like when we started and he got combative with me once again. I would tell anyone in the market for a lender to steer clear of this man!

Review by Minjeong Kim for Steven Macke

Completed transaction on January 5, 2024

There were two major issues with Steven Macke and they were scam and deceiving. Issue 1: When I contacted him to get a quote, I sent him an address of the property, which is a condo and he sent me a comps and said 5.25%. This was significantly lower than other competitors, one of them was recommended by my trustful loan officer so I went with Steven. Later, I found out that this rate was for a single home purchase and for a condo, it was 5.5%, said Steven. I wondered why he would have given 5.25% even though he knew it was a condo but 5.5% was still lower than other competitors so I started my process with a bit of doubt. I should have backed out then. Issue 2: When the loan process started, he said I needed to buy points in order to have 5.5%. This was very deceiving because he never mentioned that I had to buy points. I thought 5.5% was a default interest rate. I asked Steven what the real interest was then but never heard a clear answer. So, I not only lost a chance to shop around fairly but also ended up spending nearly $2,000 to keep 5.5%. It was not just an unpleasant experience. It was a scam and deceiving. I can't wait to refinance in a few years and be away from Steven and this company.
