"Believe me, the process was memorable. It also took a significant amount of time away from my job. Jason Barnes and Margie Bautista were wonderful. But the underwriting department was disorganized and horrible at communication. The requests that Margie passed along on their behalf were written in an extremely vague, unclear manner. Further, there were multiple emails with underwriting requirements on the same day on three separate occassions, and there were a few repeat requests for things I already provided and that don't change or update regularly (contact info, driver's license, etc.) Additionally, the underwriter waited over a month to request some things that are FHA and/or NAF requirements. So, obviously, they knew they would need those documents. I switched lenders when I had been a few days away from closing, so I had the appraisal, etc. done and already had much of the documentation prepared. It should not have taken a month and a half to get clear to close on this loan. The underwriter could have requested everything they needed all at once instead of scattering over two dozen requests out like breadcrumbs. I almost lost the deal because the seller couldn't continue paying extra mortgage payments on the house she was trying to sell, which I made clear from the get-go. As soon as I complained (like I am here) to Jason and Margie, the underwriter suddenly managed to wrap things up in a matter of days. They need to get organized and learn how to communicate clearly. I get that there will be some technical speak, but an English professor shouldn't find your requests so incomprehensible so frequently. Instead of \"document payment,\" say \"provide document showing X.\" Someone in underwriting should know words like \"tax transcript,\" \"payment history,\" and \"bill\" and should be familiar with which documents satisfy their requirements. And they should know that the layperson they're making requests of doesn't know what random acronyms mean (even Google and ChatGPT couldn't figure out one of them). If you want me to write an addendum that updates the closing date but won't give me an estimated closing date, consider making a suggestion rather than leaving me to research contract law to figure out what sort of phrasing will satisfy them without creating a need for a second addendum. And, for God's sake, if there is an addendum adding co-signers to a contract, EXPLAIN why you still need them to sign a blank page that was printed by accident at the end of the contract but not any other page of the contract. The people are added to the contract via addendum. You didn't need them to sign any other page of the purchase agreement. So why do they need to put full signatures on a blank page that the seller and I only had to initial? I repeatedly asked for an explanation because my co-signers, being logical people, did not want to sign ONLY a random blank piece of paper on top of the addendum. My repeated requests for an explanation were ignored. The only thing I received was a passive-aggressive note to sign in my closing paperwork that said \"unfortunately, my co-signers won't sign p. 14 because they stated they won't sign a blank page.\" Unfortunately? Really? I signed it, but I don't appreciate passive-aggressive sarcasm taking the place of answers to legitimate questions. tl;dr: Jason and Margie are amazing, and thank God they stood up for me, because I almost lost the chance to buy a house because your underwriters couldn't provide clear or comprehensive instructions, took a month to ask for things they could have asked for from day 1, and wasted my time with repeat requests for the same documents, requests that were surely superfluous (did you really need 100+ invoices on top of 1099s to prove I'm self-employed?), and a bizarre obsession with a blank piece of paper that somehow made it the most important part of the purchase agreement. p.s. Your home warranty person literally left me a message saying they were going to stop contacting me because I can only buy the product for 30 days after closing. I had told her I would contact her before closing. That's how dragged out this process was--your own subsidiary assumed, based on the normal flow of things, that I had closed weeks prior when, at that time, I had no idea when I would close and wasn't cleared for a couple more weeks. Again, thank heavens Jason and Margie stepped in to help when they did because I'd probably be sending in MORE credit card statements and dealing with an expired appraisal if the underwriter kept going at their pace."
